Howdy

Since this is an introduction thread, I'll say "howdy" and give you a bit o' background. I live in a suburb of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. I'm another older clydesdale who decided to shed some surplus tonnage by riding. A couple of years ago my girlfriend and I bought cheapo bikes from a big box store; I got an ill fitting Schwinn Ranger mountain bike, she got a single speed beach cruiser. I was lugging nearly 280 pounds, the GF...well it's impolite, so...

Anyway, we rode maybe twice a month that summer, and by ded reckoning logged probably fewer than 300 miles. We put the bikes away in November and left them in our respective garages until last March.

Last year we rode twice a week, probably 800 miles, and never put the bikes away (although we did curtail the riding during the worst of the winter weather).

Realizing that my fitness "hobby" was becoming an obsession, and acknowledging that our riding was done on a rail-to-trail that is partially paved and partially gravel/cinder/dirt, I bought a Trek 7300 hybrid two months ago. I've already put nearly 300 miles on it and I'm considering attempting a century by September.

As for the tonnage...well, I'm in no immediate danger of changing my nickname to "Slim", "Stretch" or "Sticks", but the weight is slowly inching downward...last time I checked, the needle on my scale was hitting 235.

Hi Zoste, I'm guessing that you've found the Clydesdales/Athenas forum? There are a lot of BF members out your way, including Clydes.

Welcome to BF, and feel free to PM me with any questions !
