insert something witty and clever

Hey My name is Niki with one K and I'm from GA.
OMG Im such a beginner.
Anyways, I only work about 6 miles away from where I live and I recently gained 17 lbs (like I shouldnt be wearing a bikini right now but I did anyways when I went to Savannah last weekend). Anyyyways. So I thought, hey I should start commuting to work (whenIgetmyrebatecheck). I havent ridden a bike since I was in freaken elementary school. So I dont know what kind to get and what to do when the bike breaks during a trip (my current guess is to like ... first, cry. Then find my cellphone and ask someone for a ride). So I started some mad Googling and ended up here when I googled "REI Novara Fusion". So thats how I stumbled upon this site. . . .

Umm, I am a chemist. And I recently got certified to teach yoga. I know some of my interests make me sound all "hippie" but Im actually pretty conservative.

I won a freakin free trip to Europe so Im going to Florence, Italy this September.

Oh, I also have an eye that crosses sometimes but I had surgery to fix it and at least its not crossed all the time like it used to be.

Hi Niki, does this mean that you have a Novara Fusion?

If you don't need that trip, could you pass it along to me? I would love to visit Firenze... .

Welcome to BF, and feel free to PM me with any questions !

Thank you!

Im not getting the Novara Fusion. The back wheel is WAY too mechanical for me to take off reasonably. It comes well equipped with fenders and a rack on the back and back and front lights. ... but I am leaning towards the Novara Corsa after a test drive. It just sits really upright. I dont know if commuter bikes all are like that or if its just the seat positioning or what. I'll probably ask about that in a thread or something.

Anyways, thanks for responding! I'm nervous about getting the wrong crap to start commuting ... I dont know what is essential to take with me in case of flat tires or whatever. So I should be around here some to update people or to ask tons and tons of questions.

Visit the Commuting forum. Those old hands will be able to answer all your questions, and make you feel much less nervous about the prospect of commuting on a bike.

Hi Niki. I'm guessing you live in the Atlanta area since you're looking at Novara.
I work at Intown Bicycles near Piedmont Park/Virginia-Highlands. Why not stop by and look over our selection. We won't pressure you into buying and we'll be glad to answer any questions about our bikes or bikes in general.

Ron, Im only looking to spend like 3-600 bucks. I dont want to spend an arm and a leg getting my first commuter bike. So I am hesitant to go to the Atlanta/hipster scene area and spend like 1k on a bike.

Do you guys have bikes in that price range? I was going to check out Performance Bikes because I heard they had decent prices.

PLUS, I dont have a bike rack. If I bought a bike there could you guys fit it in my Camry? LOL?

Om shanti, Revolator.
Our bikes start in the low $300s and our most expensive bike is around $1400. We cater to new cyclists, casual riders and commuters but work on any and every type of bike -- anything from a $20 thrift store bike to $2000+ carbon fiber or titanium road (racing) bikes.
We sell everything you'll need for commuting (bags, panniers, racks, lights, locks, rain gear, etc) and we have racks that will fit your Camry.
You can find info about everything we sell on the website (www.intownbicycles.com). There are several videos on simple repairs and hoe to articles, from city riding to commuting to ...

Stop by anytime. The shop is on Monroe Dr about a block north of 10th St. If I'm not there (I work part time) Mike (the owner), or Robert, or Rita, or David, or Ross, or whoever is working can help you and answer any questions you have. We're open M-F 10AM-6:30PM, Sat 10AM-5PM, and Sun 12 noon-5PM.

Last time I checked we had a few used bikes (in very good shape) that some of the guys are selling through the shop.
Hope to see you soon.

Where do you teach yoga?
I've taken several yoga classes (I'm still a beginner ) including the "Yoga for Cyclists" class at Jai Shanti. The wife of the owner of the bike shop I work at teaches Reiki at Jai Shanti.
