I am 18 and am not really new to cycling per-se (I used to BMX in elementary and middle-school), but I have been out of it for a while and am trying to lose weight badly. (I am at around 280-300 and only about 5'-4" to 5'-6")

I am riding an older Trek 820 that my friend gave me after he upgraded to a Stumpjumper.

After high school and I can get a job, places around here are all booked up of high school part-timers, I am thinking about getting an entry level road bike as I find it more fun to ride on the street and they are better commuters. Don't get me wrong, I like hitting the trail as much as the next guy but the road just seems a bit more accessible to me.

Hello zeroncali, the Trek 820 will certainly get you started off in the right direction! Do visit the Clydesdales/Athenas forum--the folks there are very understanding about losing weight, and having fun at the same time .

Welcome to BF, and feel free to PM me with any questions !
