New here--a "re-newbie"

I was an avid mountain biker back in college, worked in a shop, and raced for fun (but I was soooo slow!) I kept up biking a bit after I joined the army, but once I got married I pretty much stopped, because my husband isn't into it at all.

Well, I'd sold my nice full-suspension bike that'd served me so well, because I felt sorry for it gathering dust. But after years of bike-dreams, I'm ready to get back into the saddle again. I know I can't afford to spend all my money on bikes like I used to, back when my bike was worth more than the car it was hanging on. I went ahead and got a cheapie road bike from ebay, from chickabike (I saw a couple of people on here had experiences with them, too) and my fingers are crossed that it is not totally horrible! I just want a bike that I can ride and enjoy myself. I have always wanted to do a century, so I'm hoping that the bike is servicable (or at least upgradable?) I don't care about competing, though. I just want to ride and see the scenery go past.

"I just want to ride..." What a great statement.

Welcome to Bike Forums. Are you still in the Army? I spent a long time in the Navy and my brother-in-law is a Major in the Army about to start his second tour in Iraq.

Hey adventure .... lots of folks here have come back to cycling after a long time off the bike. You'll fit in very well here.

Of course, many welcomes to!
