Welcome to BF.
Craiglist is a good place for a used bike.
Got my first road bike for $15 from Craiglist. Rode it 1500 miles.

Hi lanfarm, what kind of riding do you prefer? Where are you located?

And as 10 Wheels says, 'Smile when you ride'.

Welcome to BF, and feel free to PM me with any questions !

I dont think i want a used bike. Im not experienced enough to swap out used parts and make changes to the bike. I want a stock bike which is good enough for everyday riding. And also some XC

I like in Mississauga. In Canada in other words. Just suburban at its best. Not many trails. I know one place to ride but its only good for beginners like me. Once i get myself a bike, i think i am going to start some XC. Not crazy hardcore things, just beginner stuff. I want to get a hardtail bike that will be good when I get it in all stock parts. I was recommended the Specialized Hardrock, Trek 3700 and Giant Rincon over in the MTB part of bikeforums. You have any other ideas?

I don't think you can go wrong with any of those bikes, and the Hardrock is a universal favourite!

Thats what i think too. It seems like the best of the three. But i need to find a place that sells specialized in my area. The place i know of specializes in only Giant, Trek and Cannondale.

Why yes, you probly did. Its ok, we all make mistakes sometimes You are forgiven

D'Ornella's? I found the website, Itss in Scarborough making it too far. It has to be at the most half an hour away by bike ride. This is because my car cant hold a bike in it so i would have to ride back. And specialized there is $500. Even on sale. I think other places are cheaper.

Sorry for the hassle. Its just hard to find a good LBS in a good distance with the right bike with the right price.

Hmm.

Try asking for recommendations for LBSs in the General Cycling forum. I'd suggest the Eastern Canada regional forum, but I'm not sure how many people would respond.

Platforms...bikes don't come with clips, because it's a matter of taste to the rider. In fact, a lot of upper end bikes are sold without pedals at all, because it's expected that the rider will supply his/her favourite style.

O, that is true. I just couldnt see the picture of the Hardrock very closely. The pedals looked small.

Ok, thanks,, im still a newbie at this. Today i figured out what the "cassette" was.

If the bike store near you , that sells Trek and Giant, is helpful tske their bikes for a test ride and buy the one you like best. If you are a beginner it is much more important to have a good bike with great after sale support, than to have a great bike with little support. At any price point there will be little to choose between the makes you mentioned. Good luck.

That is quite true. But the Hardrock has disc brakes and has 100 mm of travel in the fork. This is partialy what im looking for. But yeah, i will have to test the other bikes out

Thanks for the info.

That is why we are here!

Things that seem obvious to us are still mysterious when one is new, so don't hesitate to ask.
