Runner Converted to Cycling
Hello!
I competed on the Mtn bikes for 3 years, 10 years ago, retired from that, got a real job, and started to be a "runner" jogging after work. I love running, but the pain of a collapsing arch told me to go back to my roots on two wheels
Who really reads this forum anyway?

Running is a good sport. So, is cycling. You shouldn't give up running because you have a collapsing arch. Perhaps wider, more supportive running shoes will help you. There are tons of runners that have all sorts of ailments with their feet. A good running store would be able to help you out. Keep at it and welcome back to two wheels.
but seriously, keep on running!

Ok, so now that we've got that taken care of--what kind of bike are you riding?
Welcome to BF, and feel free to PM me with any questions !

I'm at the point where I need custom orthotics, running stores have done what they can with their supports.
Picked up last year's Specialized Allez Comp. I'm digging it. I'm a gear snob though, we'll see how long the components last

Obsessive Compulsive Poseur .
There are several threads in Road Cycling about it.
(no, it's not bad, just a fun name for the guys who like to switch out components).

I'm setup with 105 right now. It works.
The taint is a little sore, and I was told to start finding a new seat. But, I'm not sure if I should start dropping money on something I don't need. On my seat now, there is a gap for the taint, but it might be for someone of a smaller frame, or I just need to build up a tolerance. I remember from my old days that we'd be pretty sore after riding, a good sore.

I'd give it a couple of weeks. If you are newly back to riding, your rear will be sore for at least a week or two, getting used to the saddle again.
If you are still having problems a month from now, I'd definitely look into changing the saddle.
