hello from south central KY

I just wanted to introduce myself. The welcome note suggested that this be one's first post. I've been cycling fairly regularly for 3 or 4 years. I have a mid nineties Fuji mountain bike that someone smoked alot of cigarettes to get! It seems odd that a tobacco company would offer a bike, but it got me a free bike (hand me down). I basicly use the Fuji for short and/or rainy trips in town. My other bike (which was also a hand me down) is an '89 Cannondale _700 (road). It has a few minor updates, but I don't want to invest very much in it because those updates can accumulate into a good fraction of a new bike's cost. I think I'll try to get a new bike around the 2K range sometime between now and the end of the year, and will probably ask for advice on that in another area of the forum. I want to get faster and decided getting a new bike would be better than losing weight or giving up smoking! I do metric centuries without much pain or problems, but this weekend I will attempt my first true century in a fundraiser called The Horsey Hundred. I ride with a friend or cycling mentor here in Campbellsville, but we would love to have more folks ride with us at our slow to moderate pace. I'm glad I found this forum. I know I can learn some stuff here and maybe even find someone else to ride with. Later, Wilson

You've come to the right place for asking about new rides. The 2k range has a lot of options, though I am slightly biased to the Fuji line myself. You've already got one, up to you if you want another I suppose.

Oh, and no new bike is going to give you the perfomance benifit of giving up smoking. There are plenty around the boards who have done it, ask around and I'm sure they'll tell you first hand.

As cuda said, there are plenty of options for someone willing to spend $2000 . Check out the regional forums--there may be some other members in your locale.

Welcome to BF, and feel free to PM me with any questions !
