I'm a long-time runner who did my first triathlon a couple of months ago and got blown off the road riding my old Giant hybrid. I didn't have a lot of money to spend on a new bike, so bought an old 1988 Trek 660 from a friend of mine who kept it in nearly pristine condition in his garage. I've been riding around the backroads here in central Ohio (Columbus) on my new/old bike and love the way it rides (and climbs) compared to what I had before. Not sure I will ever be a "serious" racer, but it's given me the bug to broaden my horizons. Especially now that I'm nursing some sore abdominals that the bike doesn't seem to bother, I can see myself doing more and more of this. Right now, I'm just trying to learn as much as I can, and look forward to all the advice and wisdom of this forum.

Good luck in your races. I am new to road biking this year and am amazed at how fast my strength and stamina have improved over the past few months. You can find out about anything you need to know on these boards. Keep cranking.
