New FG
Hello everyone!
My name's Ian, and I just graduated from college and I live in Newport, RI. I'm in the process of building a FG bike off of an old Univega road frame. The FG is starting off as a commuter/town bike using the cheapest parts I can find. I don't bike much now, but the idea of commuting to work (5 miles one way and showers at work) seems like an excellent idea this summer to save lots of money on gas. Maybe if I save enough money I'll buy good parts for my FG! If anyone lives in/around Newport, RI and wants to help me out or ride (once I build up some sort of endurance...) let me know!

Hello Ian, please tell me that you didn't grind off any braze-ons....? Us Classic & Vintage nuts like FG as much as anyone, but we also like to know that if we change our minds, that everything will be intact to return the frame to geared use .
Anyway, check in with the regional sub forums to find the other people who live in your area.
Welcome to BF, and feel free to PM me with any questions !

Grinding off braze-ons is way too much work...unless I had a dremel, in which case it'd be fun, sparks-flying work!

I have to admit that seeing sparks flying is fun .
Do you have any photos?

Not yet, the frame is currently in the trunk of my car, and when I said "live in Newport" I really mean "moving to Newport tomorrow morning," so everything is kind of a mess right now...
Once I've moved down to Newport and get some wheels (order those today) I'll definitely take some pictures though!
