New rider in Summit Co, Ohio
Greetings,
I have known that I have been getting out of shape for a while now, but from last year this time to this year, I have gained a little more than 10lbs. This is a lot for someone who has always been skinny and when the 10lbs has nothing to do with muscle only chub (I like that word better than fat :-)).
So, my sister began training at the beginning of this spring for a 5k running race and she talked me into joining her. I went from jogging 1/2 mile to 3 miles (a little faster pace) in what seemed like an unbelievably short time. I have tried exercising in the past, but I always seem to go good for a while then loose interest.
What kept me running was the up coming race. I really like that! However... I like to explore, I like to go somewhere, I 've always enjoyed biking. I am still going to run the race with my sister but I'm going to jump from the jogging ship onto the biking ship.
Yesterday I purchased a 2007 Trek 1500 (new from shop). I rode it home. It was actually the longest bike ride I've ever done, even as a kid. The total distance was 20.8 miles on rolling hills. It was more up-hill than down (literally). Massillon is at a lower altitude than where I live (I also fly powered paragliders and am always aware of altitude as I am sure are dedicated bikers, hikers, joggers).
Anyway, when I got home, I felt as though I could have gone anther 10 miles but was glad to relax :-)
No intentions of becoming Lance Armstrong, just intentions of racing for fun and doing some touring. Thus starts my biking career.

Hello Jeremy, there are very few people who even come close to Lance Armstrong, but that doesn't mean you can't have fun racing. And touring is certainly something many of us can do!
You can always branch into duathlons or triathlons as well--lots of way to have fun with those bikes .
