New guy from Oregon
I just wanted to check in and introduce myself. My name is Jeff, and I have been lurking here for a few weeks and decided to join the fine group of people here. My user name is a product of my warped sense of humor and not because I am an angry type of guy. For me, road riding is "the rage" ,so hence the name.
I guess I will start by giving a little information about myself, and my love affair with bike riding. I am 43 with a wife and two girl, ages 13 and 3. My bike experience started as a kid back in the days of single speed. The area I lived in had lot of hills, so I learned that my low geared bike was better at climbing hills than my friends bikes. Therefore any races I got in, I would require a hill in them for me to have a chance. From there I went to riding a 10 speed road bike with a steel frame. I thought I was in heaven with all those extra gears. That bike was a 35 pound monster, and was considered a size 27 because of the tire diameter. It was stolen, thus ending my bike riding for a number of years. In the mid-nineties I returned to biking. When I went to my LBS, they did not even stock a road bike. So, I bought a mountain bike to ride on the road. As you might guess, that did not last long. Now, I am getting back into riding again. It just seems like the right time to do it again for so many reasons. I am still riding the old Giant mountain bike that I bought back in the nineties for now. I have been test riding a few road bikes at several LBS's lately, and plan to invest in one soon as the funds become available. So, that may be a little to much information for you, but thanks for letting ramble on and be a part of this forum.

East Hill,
I live in Albany, which is 70 mile south of Portland right on Interstate-5. As far as bikes I have tried so far are Scott S-40, Trek 2.3 and a Trek Pilot 2.1. Of the ones tested, the Pilot seem to have the nicest ride. I plan on using this as more of a fitness/ recreation bike verses racing. I hope to get into some rides by the end of the summer in the 50 mile range and a century in a year or so. I 'll check in on the regional forums to see if there is some members or clubs in my area to ride with. Thanks for the welcome.

I know there's a few in Albany. I've been through Albany many times (I live just outside of Seattle WA, and we visit the relatives in Northern California every few years.
