Howdy from the 'burbs of Philly.

Howdy all. I bought a mountain bike about six months ago for the low price of $70. Yes, I bought it from Walmart, and no it has not fell apart yet. I was taking the occasional ride but nothing too serious... that is until about a month ago. I started get into it the more and more I rode and now I ride about six days a week. I'll tell ya, the beginning sucked! Man, were my legs ever soar. Oh, not to mention my butt felt like I was gang ***** in prison. Sure enough a $15 padded seat from K-mart and a few more days of biking fixed all that. I have now rode almost everyday for the last month and I am starting to really get into a groove. I do mostly cemeteries due to the high population in the area that I live. I am doing about 50 minutes a day now. I have lost 7 pounds in this time frame, without really changing my eating habits.

Anyway, I will probably frequent this board more being I have LOTS of downtime at work.

Hello there, and welcome to BF. I'm originally from Allentown, which isn't exactly philly suburbs but is in the neighborhood.

I think you've already detected that many people on here don't hold walmart bikes in high esteem, but don't let that discourage you from posting and asking questions, or whatever. In the end, it doesn't matter what you're riding, but rather that you're riding.

It's especially cool to hear that you could lose some weight -- I need to do that myself.

Once again, welcome!

Thanks mate! I don't care for the bike myself, but when I bought it I didn't think I would get into cycling as much as I did. I just viewed it as a way to avoid using my car for store trips and minor trips. It does have it's upside though. To start, it's really heavy, which was a burden at first, but now I like all that weight. It makes me feel like I am working harder lugging all that weight up a hill. Plus it gets the job done. I could go out and buy a $4,000 dollar bike, but in the end it's going to preform the same basic function as my cheap Walmart bike. In time I will invest in something else, but for now this will do.

Welcome to the forum, and to the world of cycling.

I am from north of you a ways, but it is always good to see someone else from the Keystone state.

Hello bornintime22, as you say, it's not the most upscale bike, but if it gets you to where you need to go, then that's the important thing.

Are you doing the maintenance yourself?

Welcome to BF, and feel free to PM me with any questions !
