Newbie from Austin Texas
Hi everyone. Just wanted to introduce myself. My name is Rob and I have been a mountain bike rider for years and just recently got a road bike. I'm having a lot of fun so far and am set to compete in my first road triathlon in 5 days. Until two weeks ago I had never even ridden a road bike and am really impressed by the speed. Well, that's about it for now. I'll go browse through the posts and see what I can find.

You Know!? For Kids!
Welcome to the forums. Tons of Texans and quite a few Austinites hang out around here.
Good luck in the triathlon.
Good luck in the triathlon.

The triathlon went well. I placed 555 overall out of 800. I think I need to work on my swimming though. My swim time was about average but it wasn't fun. So far the road bike has worked out well. I have been riding up and down loop 360 here in Austin and it is quite a workout. For years now I've been driving by all the bikers out there and never really noticed how loooooong some of those hills are. The good part is that I get to come down them after all that work going up. Talk about fun. I've gotten up to 49 mph for a bit on one of them. The tri course was very flat though so I averaged right about 20 mph. I'm working my way up to riding the Hotter'n Hell Hundred. I've done it once before but that was on a mountain bike with tom slicks. Any suggestions on how to keep my hands from going numb?

Try gloves, shift your hand position, don't have a death grip on the bars, and make sure that you don't tense your arms.
