Bought my 1st bike today WOO HOO
Hello,
I left biking at the age of 12 and now at 46 am ready to pick it up again. So I went to a nearby shop and ended up with a good mid/entry level bike called a Trek Madone 4.5 compact. Unfortunately, it was 98 degrees outside so I told the owner to hold it until tomorrow so I haven't had a chance to ride it outside but I'm so excited. (BTW, couldn't believe that bikes manufacturers have the nerve to charge what they charge and not even put pedals on them. Thankfully the bike consultant threw on a pair for me but what kind of chintzy practice is that!)
I think I ended up with a decent bike and it came with a lifetime warranty so now I just have to practice riding bent forward while dodging taxis, buses, and ninja bike messengers.
Should be fun

sweet! best of luck, go faster, be safe, obey laws, wear your helmet, understand that more people will be angry having to pay for pedals they're going to take right off again so they can use ones that fit with their cleats, and don't hesitate to search for any information or advice that you may need or want!
keep your cadence up don't coast because you can and build some more muscle!

Hello Pookie--if you can handle traffic in NYC--you can handle traffic anywhere .
Glad to hear that you are so excited about your new bike. Cc700 is right, all upper end bikes come without pedals because each rider will want his/her own preference in pedals installed on the bike. So, if they come with pedals, the pedals will be cheap, and they won't be clip ins.
Welcome to BF, and feel free to PM me with any questions !

Hello Pookie,
Congratulations on your new bike. Aside from pedals, don't forget to get a helmet. They are essential in traffic. My wife was recently hit by a truck and thank God she was wearing a helmet, the impact cracked her helmet in three spots. she is fine because of her helmet, you can read about her ordeal at her blog, https://emptypage.typepad.com/. Good luck and be safe.

Thank you for all the warm welcomes. I've been really enjoying biking - been going around Central Park. Have to swap out the saddle but otherwise having a ball.
I absolutely got a helmet - thank you for the blog, MrRamonG. Your wife's ordeal was awful. I hope your lawyer cleans his financial clock.
