I can now introduce myself now that I have a bike
My name is Val, from Orlando Florida. I just bought a 2008 mongoose crossway 350 hybrid bike and rode it to work for the first time yesterday. I have been wanting to commute to work for a while but never got the motivation to actually get up and do it. Recently I might have had a seizure and the doctors took away my driving privileges. I haven't driven in a little under a month, at first it was really hard relying on everyone to take me to work and school but now that I have a bike I have a lot more freedom and I feel great while doing it. Even if I get to drive soon I plan on still riding my bike to work (30+ miles a week) and to the store.
Thanks to everyone who is so encouraging to get out and ride, hopefully I will be able to give some input on this forum once I am more experienced and knowledgeable in this subject.

Welcome Val, and congratulations on your first bike commute!
Glad to hear you are enjoying it, and I think you will find that once you get used to it, it will be easier and easier.

Hi Val--that must have been quite frightening, having a possible seizure. You definitely don't want to be driving a car when that happens. Do your doctors suspect epilepsy? I have a friend who has pretty much given up driving simply because every time he drives, he gets those headlamps flashing in his eyes, and it triggers an episode .
At any rate, commuting on the bike will cost you less, keep you safer, and be beneficial for your health in other ways .

Hi Val and welcome to BF.
If you haven't already, check with the folks at Metroplan about biking info, commuting, bike friendly routes, etc.
