Hello all, newbie to the forums...

I'm not new to cycling, but out of a desire to get as much information about proper nutrition with my new schedule I decided to join the forums.

A little about me: I'm 29 and live in Greensboro, NC and am a former Clydesdale at 240 pounds. Now I'm down to 195 and dropping. After stepping up the riding and intensity late last summer I've been able to continue it this year since becoming warm. I'm riding a minimum hour a day, usually over lunch, as hard as I can along with a long Saturday ride, either on trails or on the road bike around town and resting Sunday. A few years ago I might have been riding once a week, if that. Last year I stepped it up a bit to 3-4 days a week by the end of the summer and fall. Now I'm up to 6 days a week, around 100-150 miles depending on how long my Saturday rides run.

With that, I can't believe how much stronger I've become, and since cycling is a definite passion and something that I couldn't see myself without, I can't wait to see the end result of all the time I'm putting in.

bikes: An old hard tail Ironhorse Outlaw (2001 or so)
A newer-ish Tomasso Imola (2005 or so)
I'm looking into getting a full suspension as well to make the trail riding easier on my body.

See you on the trails!

Hi lmxloco, are you going to start racing? It sounds as if that could be a possibility. Or perhaps you are thinking maybe a triathlon?

At any rate, you are enjoying your riding .

Welcome to BF, and feel free to PM me with any questions !

Definitely don't see a triathalon in my future. I've found out the hard way that my knees can't take the running anymore.

However, there are two co-workers of mine that race a lot (single track) and until recently I didn't think I could compete. Last Saturday I rode with one of them and kept up just fine with him, so I am certainly thinking about joining a few races here and there. I want to pick up a full suspension bike first, which I should get sometime in the next month. In fact, any suggestions on a good mountain bike in the sub $800 range (I don't have a lot to spend) would be great.

And yes, I'm always enjoying the ride.
Thanks!

Argh, too bad about the knees. Take a look at the stickies in the MTB forum--there should be a handy guide in there to help you with your budget choices.
