Hello from Upstate NY!!

Hello all! I hope to come on here a bit and re-learn some biking attributes. As a kid I used to race for GT on their BMX Support team... then got out of the game for a "couple years"...LOL 20 years later I am borrowing my friends GT RTS-2 and did my first ride today. Wow in realizing that while I am pretty good shape... just HOW out of shape I really am...LOL

Anyways as a forum moderator and admin on a few other sites I am really glad to see such a well used and great bike forum to fuel my possible (probable) return to riding... =)

Welcome!

Welcome to Bike Forums. I think you will find the site extremely useful.

What part of upstate? Also where do you do most of your photography?

For me Upstate is Clifton Park for right now... but closing on a house in Nassau in 2 weeks... I shoot all types of photography so I could be just about anywheres... mainly railroad photography though which keeps me at my railroad (Berkshire Scenic Railway Museum) in Lenox, MA... I also am an admin for a photography site for the northeast... www.northeastfoto.com ...

Thanks for the welcomes!

Hi Ross, your photos in infrared are fascinating. What has been your favourite railway to photograph (other than the BSR, that is)?

Welcome to BF, and feel free to PM me with any questions !

First off thanks for the warm welcome from everyone... East Hill I shoot all sorts of railroads from Maine down to New York... its a tough decision on what one would be the best but I would have to say I am partial to the Washington Hill area of MA... which stretches from Pittsfield, MA to the Mass Pike... its a CSX run line with CSX and Amtrak as its main users... its full of beautiful views and for what it is has a decent amount of trains...

I love living here in Central Texas, but as a lifelong New Yorker, I do miss the Hudson River Valley in the summer. Something about those rolling mountains is really inspiring. And the Adirondacks remain my favorite summer vacation spot.

Don't miss the winters one bit though! All my relatives were from the Albany area, it will always be special to me.

Moonmaid... I used to also live down in TX... my last couple years in the Army were spent "out in the west Texas town of El Paso"... Texas is a great state... as long as you dont mind the heat... routinely it was +105 during the summer days... much to hot for me...LOL

Yes, it can get pretty hot, but Austin and the hill country aren't quite as hot as West Texas, thank God! And I live right up the street from the Blanco River, so there is always some relief.

I have to say, the older I get, the more I can deal with the summer heat as opposed to the cold, snow and ice of a New York winter. And cheap outdoor recreation is year round.

I do love the West Texas area around Fort Davis, Alpine and Marathon. My husband and I may do a riding trip out there at some point.
