Jackson, MI

Hello everyone, I just got back into riding a bike last month (hadn't touched one since I got a drivers license but was missing out.) I started out with a used comfort bike to attempt to walk my Husky around and ride the new bike trails near me. Then I figured out I was only 7.1 miles from work and that it should only take me a bit over a half hour to get there.
This is my 3rd week riding to work and my best time on the comfort bike was 27.5 minutes and there is many more hills then I noticed in the car heh. I got bit by the bike bug hard and got clipless sandals and pedals, Switchback headlight, etc.
Then I was helping my friend look for a used bike and ended up finding myself a cool 80's Japanese road bike and the difference is amazing. I made it home in 22 minutes the other day. Needs more work then I expected but should be worth it.

Anyway, would be cool to find others to ride with and I also want to start racing once I start eating healthy again and get in better shape. I'm 27 so I'm getting a really late start but oh well.

Sevenspeed, have you asked the Classic & Vintage folks about the Shogun yet?

It is interesting how you notice how many more hills there are around the neighbourhood when it's your own musclepower moving you up those hills, isn't it?

Welcome to BF!

Thanks for the welcome and I did ask about my bearing issue and got it figured out finally. It rides great now, just have to clean up the rusty bits and maybe get an old frame pump and I should be good. Sheldon's site was very helpful too.

I'm repacking the rear hub tonight and then I'll finally get pics tomorrow. Have it mostly cleaned up but need to figure out what to do about the rust where there were nicks. Just posted a thread for ideas for that.
Did my first tour last Saturday, a 51 mile and I was slow but I made it and enjoyed it. Was about 3 hours or a bit more. Can't wait for the next one or a race.

Your Shogun looks great, and the headbadge is stunning! Thanks for posting in C & V!

Cool looking bike. Welcome XGI aka marty Another Michigander here from the NE side near oscoda. I bike on us 23 and m-72... I have the road just about to myself. Too bad you are not closer. You do however have to dodge wildlife every once in a while good luck

Thanks, did they put pin striping on bikes alot? I'm glad I found it or I might still be riding a mountain bike only. I wonder how many Michiganders are on here.
That's cool, bet it's beautiful up there too, and a highway without much traffic? That's awesome. I picked up a 93 KHS steel frame with Ultegra STI components (not original). For touring I think I still like the Shogun and friction shifters. No adjustment needed. But a 9 speed cassete is nice. The new one didn't ride that much different, I'll have to try one right after the other. Have pics of that too. I'm going to start racing next year so I'll probably end up up north at some point.

Yes, a lot of pinstriping was done 'back in the day'. Outlining the lugs was popular, too.
