New from South Carolina, just saying Hi

Hey guy and gals. Just wanted to introduce myself. I love fitness forums, you learn so much.

Anyways, I'm new to biking. I used to be an avid runner, regularly running about 15-20miles a week depending on my work schedule. Back in 2001 I hurt my right ankle really bad, bad enough to need surgery and be put out of the Army (i'm military by the ways). The option was get surgery and get out, or try and let it heal and see how it does. Well, stuborness and 8 years later, here I am. Getting surgery on it because its too messed up to go any further. Doctor said absolutely no more running, he suggested Biking.....

...... So here I am. I got sick of doing nothing here in the house, my buddy in Georgia just started road biking so I thought I would try it. I wasn't sure I would like it or not so instead of picking up a couple thousand dollar bike, I went down to Wal-Mart (yeah, you can laugh) and picked up a Schwinn. So its past midnight and just got back form a 5 mile ride. Loved it. So I guess you can say I'm hooked for now.

Oh yeah, ankle surgery is on the 23rd of July. Sorry for the long introduction.

Hi Select20, I am at Kilauea Military Camp right now, with an Elderhostel group. Been having a great time, but at least I am not here with a bum knee.

Don't worry about getting a Schwinn from Wal-Mart, it will allow you to decide if you really like cycling, and you can always use it as a beater later on!

Welcome to BF!
