Noob from NY
My name is Dan and I am from Westchester, NY. Currently live in Peekskill with my wife and our 1 year old Wheaten Terrier Fozzie.
When I was a kid I rode a Mongoose M-1 BMX and a Robinson BMX. As I got older I got into MTB. First I rode a 1991 Giant Rincon and later I upgraded to a 1996 Mongoose Rockadile SX which was voted the best bike for 1000 bucks or under by Mountain Bike Action that year. Once I got my driver's license a couple of years later, I kind of left biking to get into cars and rally racing. Still rode occasionally but mostly on paved roads/paths. 3 years ago I wanted to get back into MTB but my brother informed me that my beloved Rockadile SX and all it's upgraded componentry was stolen from his fraternity house in upstate NY. I was pissed and even more so because he never paid me back for the bike, which was valued at over 1k after all the upgrades.
Ever since my wife and I got married in October we have wanted to get bikes and start biking like crazy again. I had a very sweet 2004 Subaru WRX that was faster than a Porsche and had lots of custom work done to it, but had to sell it due to gas prices and just not wanting to deal with fixing it anymore. So the sale of the car sparked us to get back into biking. We just picked up an Iron Horse MTB for my wife and I was just given a Full suspension 24 speed Motiv by a neighbor who is moving. I know the Motiv is not wonderful, but it was free, and the reviews I have read on them are not so bad. I figure I will ride it until I save up enough for a new Specialized with discs and decent front suspension. We were also given 2 custom road bikes that are about 20 years old if you can believe it. The couple that gave them to us races and has a garage full of ridiculously expensive bikes. I will post pictures of the road bikes because I know nothing about them other than the fact that they have all Campagnolo parts on them and they are gorgeous bikes. The men's one that we got I have decided to convert to a single speed/fixie and I think it is going to be incredible once it is done.
Sorry for the long intro, but I am very excited to be back into biking and not spending so much money on cars anymore. I will post pictures as soon as I have some and maybe one of you could tell me more about the road bikes we have acquired.
