    Viva Chicago (and rural Wisconsin)

    Greetings!

My name is Brendan and I am from the chicagoland suburbs. I've been a lifelong "casual" cyclist. However, now that I am starting to travel around the city more for volunteer-related work, I've started to pick up street cycling. During the school year, I live in rural Wisconsin. I am a track/cross country runner thru and thru, so I hope to try extending some of my running routes for cycling over the next year (there is a beautiful lake nearby my residence).

I am currently riding an extremely old bicycle that looks to be from the 90s or 80s (80s might be a slight exaggeration). I am saving up my money to purchase to hybrid street/mountain bike.

Once I get a new bike, I'd like to start participating in triathlons, charity events, and long-distance trips. Hence, I have joined the forums. Furthermore, after a few inconvenient run-ins with pesky drivers, I am looking for a place to rant/learn how to cope with jerks-in-cars.

"Extremely old from the 90's" just put another ache in my joints just reading it.

Just kidding. Welcome to the forums.

Hi Brendan, you've probably found the Commuting forum by now! I must protest the description of a bike from the 1980s as an 'extremely old bike' . Most of my bikes are from the 1980s, and they are all younger than I am . What bike are you currently riding?

Welcome to BF, and feel free to PM me with any questions !
