Hi all
Start with the important stuff, I've ridden bikes for over 30 years... since about the age of 4.
Since discovering mountain bikes in 1991, never really bothered with any other branch of the sport - although a few tandem rides were great.
In 17 years only had 4 mountain bikes! First off a 1991 Marin Eldridge:
If you want to see it for nostalgia reasons:

Next up was a Dave Yates Diabolo, handbuilt thing, too light for me I think as it snapped on me... but nice to ride & when fixed lasted ages. A friend still has it. Then in 2004 a DMR switchback - nice British? (Taiwanese) steel hardtail, now very dented after a trip to Sierra Nevada, Spain (that's it in the pic above).
Still have it, and also now have an Orange Five https://www.orangebikes.co.uk/2008bikes/five-pro.php - one of the best all round bikes ever made, I reckon.
Anyway, as you might gather, I'm from the UK, Wales originally, now live in Yorkshire. The biking's good in the UK, some world class stuff if you look for it.
After various jobs over the years, now a MTB guide, we do UK mountain bike holidays & bike skills coaching/guiding in North Yorkshire. So quite fortunate really... see our site for what we do and a bit more about me... https://www.chasingtrails.co.uk/about-us

Welcome to the forums. I'm originally from Suffolk and have been in the Seattle area since '94.
Nice intro. You should use that picture as your avatar.

Cheers mate - tried using the pic, but can't get the file size down without it looking really bad - could be my old version of photoshop...

Hello Orange5, I never got as far as Scarborough in my travels, but I do one day want to ride on the moors. One line of my ancestors came from Scagglethorpe, so I eventually have to visit the next time I am in England.

I am a bit fuzzy on where it happens but I have heard of a race between horses, bikes, and runners somewhere in GB. have you tried that race?

My favourite story is from about 1990ish, one of the mountain bikers stopped for fish & chips halfway and still finished in the top 10.
I've never raced myself, although I have a plan to do the Megavalanche in 2010 maybe, if money allows.
