Hi everyone,
I just got a Downtube Mini yesterday from one of the Pacific northwest members and just love it. It's my first folder, which joins a motley collection of bikes. An old Peugeot mixte, Kuwahara hybrid and an electric cruiser. I'm not a cyclist per se, but I love bikes. So far, I've ended up in a blackberry bush and pinched my finger practising set ups and knock downs on the first day. I'm all ears if you have comments on your Downtube minis. Thanks for letting me join. Fattyhamster |
Hello Fattyhamster...that's an interesting username, and any explanation would be helpful!
What Peugeot mixte do you have? Photos? Welcome to BF, and feel free to PM me with any questions :) ! East Hill Forum Moderator http://i160.photobucket.com/albums/t...a/pinkstar.jpg |
Hi there East Hill,
You've got an interesting screen name too! Fatty was the name of my hamster, and also reflects my varied interests and propensity to collect :) My Peugeot mixte ten speed was produced in the early 70's and was bought with my first 'real' paycheck. It's awfully sentimental. I still have the original light amber bulb in the headlamp. The headlamp and tail light are built into the fenders. The bike's not very accessible at the moment, but will try to remember to take a photo to send. Over the years I replaced the rims, tires, crank, pedals, chainrings, rear derailleur. I couldn't stop in the rain with the old steel rims. I don't ride the bikes very often, but LOVE bikes. I'm in Vancouver Brititsh Columbia. Where are you located? |
You must have taken very good care of your mixte! I agree, trying to stop with steel rims is not a fun proposition, especially as we both live in the Pacific Northwest (I'm to the south of you, in Kent, WA).
Kent has two hills, and I am on the....East Hill :) . |
Yes, I love the old Peugeot. My best upgrade were Porteur handlebars that I got in Toronto and mounted myself and brake levers that fit into the bar ends. Looked pretty cool for early 80's rig. LOL I've had the mixte since HIGH SCHOOL.
Funny... I bought a Downtube Mini from a list member last week who lives in Lynden. Small world. I only joined after being sent his original post and pix of the arrival of his former Mini and Dahon Curve folder by my friend. The same friend who recommended that folder to me. Never been on this bike forum... just one for power assist bike nuts. Too techie for me :( Do you ride a lot in Kent? Vancouver has a lot of hills...arrgh! LOL |
Yes, I do a lot of riding in Kent, and I commute to work by bike. The commute consists of going down the East Hill in the morning and going up the West Hill. In the afternoon, it's reversed so that I go down the West Hill, and up the East Hill. It's just under ten miles one way, and I get a LOT of practice in going up hills :D .
