Greetings from Ohio

Hello everyone,
I am a newbie to this whole biking thing. I really liked it when I was younger with my department store bike but now that I am older I want to get serious about doing it. I am 27 years old and I would be classified as a clydesdale at 220 lbs. I have a Specialized Rockhopper. I chose that bike because I read that it is a good starter bike to get your feet wet. I bought the bike in 2006 and barely used it. It sat in storage for 2007 (yes I was lazy ) but this year I decided to break it out again. I enjoy riding it to work because it is six miles one way and a very nice warm up for my legs before class ( I'm a karate instructor.)

Quick story, I just registered for this site today and after getting pumped up reading some different stories I proceeded to go out for a ride. That is when my reality check happened. I was attempting to ride above my abilities and climb a gravel path when I fell. The fall was minor but I did crack the screen on my phone. After deciding to turn around and head back I made it about 75 feet and my chain broke on my bike. I had to call for a ride home because I have not gotten around to getting a multi tool yet to try to fix those things (I know, I know not to bright am I it has since now that I am home. ) I noticed that I broke some teeth on my chainring too. I thought that was kinda humorous. A nice little add on to the broken chain.

Sorry for the scattered post.

Hey, where in Ohio? I'm from Columbus.

My Karate instructor doesn't bike. Says it's dangerous.

hey there... sounds like a rough re-intro to riding, but a GREAT story! i just started riding again as well. my reasons are mainly transport... and a parallel main reason is the enjoyment of riding.

i used to ride / race cross country in the early to mid 90's. used my gt karakoram for getting around during college, then sold it because i was broke. sad sad days in buffalo ny!

i recently picked up a used lemond zurich... came to find out that the frame is highly sought after.. i love the bike.. going to get it stripped and refinished to preserve the great reynolds 853 steel... so it'll be a sleeper of sorts.

i just placed an order for my commuter bag... a custom timbuk2... you'll be able to ID me around town due to the irish flag bag.

anyway, i'm in the cleveland area, and run a 22 mile commute 5 days a week. glad to be on the forum and looking forward to many years of reducing my carbon footprint, and making great friends through many rides!

later all!

Thank you for the warm welcome. Angel I'm in Toledo. My instructor usually says that non-combat sports are more dangerous than karate.
