Yo! From South Jersey, me and my Mike Melton bike are glad to be here!

I've been riding around on an early to mid 1980's Mike Melton bike that fits me like a glove. I have always been a casual rider and, for whatever reason, never got more serious. I have taken numerous 30-mile rides, but now I want to ride in some longer charity events.

Maybe I will shoot over to another forum to ask, but while I am saying "hi", I just wondered how odd I would look to show up with a Mike Melton frame and Campagnolo hardware that is over 20 years old!

Pretty cool, I'd say ...

That's cool. I never rode in any group events, but I was told that If I can do 30 miles, then 75 or a hundred is definitely in range. I guess I was a little intimidated by all the hard core guys and fancy new equipment.

So, I think I will show up with my two-decade old bike and give the next charity event a shot.

Glad I signed on to the bike forums.

Hi Philster, I routinely ride my vintage bikes in organised rides. It's a bit tougher getting up the hills (hey, some of my bikes are 10 speeds!), but they are beautiful and unique :D .

Um, could you post some photos of your Mike Melton in the Classic & Vintage forum?

Welcome to BF, and feel free to PM me with any questions :) !

welcome Philster!

i used to ride in your area years ago, used to live in pitman. i used a rebuilt ATALA 'giro de atala' steel lwb framed to explore, many Many miles! currently, have only slightly ventured back into gloucester co,
due to time restraints... am now located in vineland.

check out south jersey wheelmen (SJW). we offer "bulk" rides of 100 -200, but also rides with 2 - 8 !

that's how i got introduced to group riding (1980-SJW). i usually ride solo now, but also lead wednesday and sunday rides through the club (open invite)!

welcome x 2!!

This place rocks. Thanks. Hey, tomq, funny coincidence: I am actually leaving work early to look at houses in Pitman today. Got my bike in my truck and will probably cruise through the neighborhoods after seeing some properties in Pitman with a Realtor. Biking through the town will be more revealing.

Thanks for all the info. Gonna go post a pic in Classic and Vintage now.

Hi Philster: Take that bike and ride it wherever, whenever and with whomever you want. What's important is how it feels and how much you like it. My old 1976 Melton has always drawn quite a crowd (especially being a 26" frame). No need to try to keep up with the hard cores - have fun, see the sights and enjoy your ride. I always found that there were folks in most club or group rides who didn't want to bust-ass with the hard cores, but wanted to have a good time. A few of these rides and pretty soon 35 miles turns to 50, then 60 and soon you're completing 100 mile centuries.
Drop me an email and I'll add you to my Melton database. Have fun!!
