Checking in from the Deep South : Jackson, MS
I've been reading threads for several weeks here, but have just joined up.
No experience with road bikes, but have the fever BAD. I'm driving my wife crazy with the magazines, web articles and tidbits of info I'm finding daily. I'm even trying to put my 19 month old on a road bike. So I've joined looking for some pressure relief and some positive feedback. There's only so much response a 19 month old can give.
Jackson seems to have a large cycling "family" and offers a variety of rides for all levels.

Hi crane0271, so what bikes are you looking at? And when are you going to take the plunge?

Two LBSs carry Specialized and Trek. I believe they are owned by the same person/company. One is pushing Trek, the other Specialized, of course. A third store carries Masi, Felt and Guru; the owner has suggested the Masi Alare as a good entry level bike. I haven't ridden the Masi. I have ridden a Trek 1.2, 1.5, and 2.1. I am supposed to ride a Specialized Allez Elite any day.

Well, don't rush the purchase unless you find a bike that feels absolutely perfect. I would enjoy checking out the Masi, Felt, and Guru bicycles myself!

The owner of the Masi shop says the Felt geometry wouldn't work for my geometry. haha. I like their component groups and their prices. I'm one of those "gotta have it now" guys so all of this research and e-search is wearing on me...and I haven't even begun to look for the right helmet, shoes, shorts, etc.

Can't say as I blame you for wanting to get out and ride .
