Aloha from Hilo Hawaii

I build very rugged electric mountain bikes for the tropical climes & enjoy cycling backcountry roads being chased alongside by wild roosters.

Hello elmgreen11, which roads are you riding on the Big Island? My husband and I just concluded a two week holiday to Hawaii, and had a splendid time touring the island.

You'll have to find the wild roosters by yourself....

Always nice to see another Hawaii resident! Welcome. I used to live in Hilo. Lived in Hawaiian Paradise Park for a little over a year. I kind of miss Hilo, although with the vog situation, I probably miss it less than I would otherwise.

Nah, the vog is on the Kona side, not Hilo. Hilo was beautiful when we were there in July!

"Beauty is in the eye of the beholder." Place is fugly and boredom central, IMO, but at least it beats the pants off of Konafornia. It was probably OK in the 1930's or so. The time to be here was before 1880. I get the hell out of Hilo as fast as I can every morning, up to what little is left of our shrinking native wilderness high up on the mountainsides. Now THAT is where the beauty lives.
