Greetings from Utah

Hi everyone! I just wanted to introduce myself. I happened to stumble across this site while perusing coolrunning.com. So glad I made my way here. Great site! My husband and I just recently relocated to northern Utah. We moved here from Baltimore last month. Both of us have been mtn biking on and off for a couple of years. Just this last year we started to pursue it a little more seriously. We ended up purchasing road bikes given strong persuasion from a friend to help build our endurance for mtn riding. Anyway, we are excited to take advantage of all the recreational opportunites UT has to offer. We are hoping to hook up with some local riders who can show us around. I am not particularly fast but I am strong and steady. Our favorite types of rides include technical singletrack and long winding rollers. Just wanted to say "Hi" and hope to meet some cool people who can show us around this beautiful state. Feel free to email me anytime.

My current rides:
2003 Jamis Dakar XC Comp with a mix of LX/XT
2003 Cannondale R800 with a mix of 105/Ultegra
2003 Jamis Dragon frame - I am planning on attempting to build this up myself!

Happy riding!
Kelly

Welcome to the forums. I can't say from experience but it sure seems like Utah would be great for cycling, at least after the snow is gone .

Welcome to the forums.

How do you like the Jamis Dakar XC Comp so far? I am thinking of getting one this year. Did you get yours in Utah? Any opinions would be appreciated. Thanks.

Hey jdc. I can't say enough great things about the XC Comp. I couldn't find another bike in this price range spec'd as well. The Black Elite is very plush. It is extremely smooth and eats up technical terrain. I usually run it at 100mm. I am now riding things I previously couldn't on my HT. I did swap out the Python's for Mosquitos. I also convinced the dealer to upgrade my shifters to XT at no additional cost. I am however, looking to shave some additional weight off. I will be upgrading to a lighter wheelset this year. I am 110 pounds and want a lighter ride. I don't think this years bike is spec'd with the Thompson seatpost though. Bottom line, you can't go wrong with this bike. I totally love mine! BTW, I purchased it in MD. Hope that helps!

Thanks for the info on the XC Comp. I want to get one for use in the races I'm planning on doing this year. I currently have a Bridgestone MB-2, which has no suspension and brakes that require more finger strength than desirable for long downhill sections, so I'm at a major disadvantage compared to the other racers.

Utah has some of the best mountain biking in the U.S. If you haven't already done so, check out some of Falcon's guide books. http://www.falconbooks.com

Providence/Logan Utah

Howdy from Tucson!
Spent the last 2 summers next door to Providence . . . Logan Utah. There is a great bike club in Logan called the Cache Valley Veloists; also check in at Joyride Bike Shop in Logan, located on Main Street near Center; they do quite a bit of off road riding. Tell them that Rudy and Kay (thetandem folks) from Az sent you.
You'll love riding in Cache Valley!

Hey! I'm new here as well. First post ever. I've been using the forums to help me with my first Fixed Gear build. I stumbled on this thread cuz I'm bored and I wanted to see if anyone here in Logan rode fixie. I love shreddin' The Beav but I'm ready for the snow to be gone!

Hi analogmutiny, check out the regional forums to see if there's anyone in Logan still. I don't know if Kelly's still around...last visit was in 2006.

Check the SS/FG forum too.

Welcome to BF!
