Riding again . . .

Hi everyone,
I'm a 54 year old midwestern Clydesdale who wants to get back into riding after a 20 year absence. I'm down 20 pounds from my starting weight, and hope to leave the Clydesdale category behind in a few months.

I used to ride a Nishiki road bike that I absolutely loved. I felt like I was flying . . .

But now I don't want to be on a road bike. Or a men's frame, so I'm bike shopping.

See you in the Clydes or Over 50s forum!

Hi OldBroad, so what bikes are you looking at?

Welcome to BF, and feel free to PM me with any questions :) !

Hi! Thanks!

I just wrote out my saga on the 50+ forum (and then noticed the sticky about returning riders -- oops). I looked at a comfort bike today, and really hated it. It felt very awkward with my arms up so high. I was terrified on the starts and stops.

After reading the thread about how to ride a bike and actually thinking about how one rides, I just now realized that the high handlebars may have prevented me from tansferring my weight forward so that I could easily stand on the pedal to get it moving and my butt up on the seat. Hmmmmmmm . . .

So at any rate, I have been comparing photos and noticed that the hybrids seem to have the handles lower. I do like the weeshy frames frames of the step through bikes (at least for now). There are a couple brands/models that look good on paper . . .

Thanks for the kind welcome! Any ideas appreciated. I'm trying to keep the price around $500.

I think that the 50+ forum folks can chime in with their opinions. Otherwise, ask in General Cycling.
