Hello from San Diego.

Well i'm 35 now and looking to shed the padding on my muscles since I haven't lived in the brisk weather of winter New York for a long time now. I figured cycling and commuting to work would work out great for me.

I'm looking at getting the Trek FX 7.5 or the 7.3 model. The travel to work is 13-14miles with varying degrees of hills.

I'm going to do alot of reading here to see if I can learn enough by October(my personal deadline) to make a purchasing decision that won't haunt me down the road.

Funny thing is that I'm getting back into my youth loves. Cycling (although it was BMX and Freestyle) and Skateboarding.

Welcome to BF.
Ask the folks in the Commuting forum about bikes, how to carry your clothes, lunch, rain gear, cold weather gear, lights, etc. Lots of friendly, knowledgeable folks.
