    Hello from South Florida

Hello from South Florida. I'm looking forward to learning everything I can about bikes and riding from you all. I haven't bought a road bike yet and that is part of the reason I joined this site, but I will save that for the "Road Cycling" section. So for now, hello.

I'm not looking for any brand in particular. I'm looking for a good entry-level bike under $1000. I have a paralyzed left-arm so I'm also looking into building a bike from the frame-up. I was thinking about a hybrid or putting a flat-bar on a road-bike, but I was riding my father's bike a couple days ago and didn't have any problems with his except for the aero bars getting in my way(He has a really nice Cervelo and promised me he would paralyze my other arm if I crashed and broke it, lol). So I'm thinking I'll stay with drop handlebars. But right now I'm still researching what I should do and talking to some fellow riders with similar disabilities and getting their opinions. So if you have any ideas or recommendations I'd truly appreciate it, thanks.

    Welcome CanesFan44.

Where in South Florida are you from? Miamish I'm guessing from your nic.

I used to live in Tampa until about a year or so ago. Not sure why Tampa was considered "South Florida" when it was really more in center of state, but it was.

Hmmm...there's several companies which make adapters so that people who are only able to use one hand can operate both brakes with one control.

    Check out this link...

Thank you East Hill. That article was excellent and I just sent an e-mail to BrakeDirector. That seems like a great product and I think I might get that. I'm glad to see them working with disabled vets. It seems like all the big companies could care less about helping out the disabled because there's not a very big market for people like myself(I've contacted Shimano numerous times about everything from brake levers to making fishing reels to help out the disabled, but if there isn't big $ in it, they don't care. Oh well, that's life)

As for everyone else, I live in Deerfield Beach and I agree that it's strange that Tampa is considered South Florida(USF) and Orlando is considered Central Florida(UCF).
