Just getting back into biking in a large way after having to do 1,001 other things for 10+ years - like moving to Vermont from the madness that is Massachusetts. So first I bought a Trek FX hybrid for general motion. Now I'm upgrading my custom A-D Puch Inter 10 (? - no sticker/lettering - strange deal through Sheldon Brown's crew). Bought the frame back in 1982. Still as good as then. Fast as it gets and nimble - goes where I want without having to steer. Love that longish wheelbase and Reynolds 531. People can have their carbon whatsit's.

Vermont is made for bicycles and horses. Except for winter, it's the best. But if you're thinking of moving, beware: It's a seller's market here. No matter what national trends may say. My house has doubled in value in the last 10 years.

Welcome Dave! I've done a small amount of riding in Vermont, mainly around the Smugglers Notch area as well as a bit in the south on the Molly Stark Trail (Rt. 9). Nice roads, not as heavy traffic as here in Mass, though the western part of the state is not bad. Enjoy your stay here!

Thanks, Suzie. There are some wonderful trails all around Lake Champlain - come up and ride 'em sometime. Time now for the leaf-peepers to roll in.

I've actually wanted to do some riding up on Grand Isle, but I don't really know much about it. One of these days I will have to plan a vacation around some Vermont riding. And at least a tour to Ben and Jerry's :lol:

Love Vermont. We, wife and I, spent a couple weeks last fall in VT/NH. We camped in the NE Kingdom and had a blast on our tandem. Welcome!

I just got back from a 4 day trip from MA to Vt. I started in Springfield,MA to Brattleboro up RT5 to Ascutney,RT12 into NH and then home. You can keep RT5. what a nose bleed route and boring.

There is a fantastic trail (easy even on a road bike) to Grand Isle from downtown Burlington. Goes over a former railroad bed - now just a single-lane dirt causeway jutting 4 miles across Lake Champlain. 200' is not connected, but there is a ferry on the weekends in summer for that 200'. You in the Burlington area?
I'm in Bennington, and planning to ride up for the bikefest in October, given marginal or better weather.
I did around lake Champlain (only the US parts) from home last spring, and had a great time.

See you on the bike path - I'm a yellow recumbent (Optima) or an old Voodoo MB with street tires.

If I run into you on your recumbent (figuratively speaking) - and it takes 20 x 1 1/8th to 1 1/4" tires - I carry a Vittoria tube for same. And it would be yours! Nashbunk sent me that instead of a can of teflon lube. New-In-Box. Free to the first bike I see that can use it.
