I live in central New Jersey, Mercer County. America's armpit-hub to New York City and Philadelphia
Two days ago, I bought a Raleigh Detour 4.0 hybrid bike. This is my first bicycle I've ever been on in almost 11 years, and probably the highest quality I've ever owned. I love it! It's so smooth and comfy both sitting down and standing up. The only problem is with the rider!
I'm 250 lbs at 5'7". I've been trying to whittle myself down weight-wise, and I have from 280 from just cutting out soda and walking 3 miles a day for my paper route.
So here's my 1st ride story, prepare to laugh and grab the popcorn.
I hopped on the bicycle for the first time the day after picking it up, and decided I was going to use it to commute, some place local. So my first time on a bicycle in quite a few years ended up being 2 1/2 miles each way. This doesn't sound like much of course but as I have said, I am WAY out of shape. I pushed myself that day, because in this particular commute, I biked to my first day of Hung Gar. And let me tell you it felt GREAT to push myself but the somewhat unused portions of my muscles are screaming at me. Loudly.
I feel so awful because I can't take inclines very well even small ones. I start to lose steam partially through an incline or a hill, and right now it burns like all hell to stand up and try to grind up the incline (haven't quite gotten the saddle configured properly for me yet, it's going to take some time to feel the bike out). To make it worse I remember those 10 years ago when I was in the 5th grade living in California, and I could grind up CRAZY steep inclines and not feel it in my legs. wish I were 10 again!
Anyway that's my intro/rambling/blah and such. Nice to be here, and maybe I'll learn a thing or two
