Sept2749 Rich here
Hi people - I'm 60, live in NYC and have been riding the same Colnago 10 speed for the past 22 years. Yesterday my wife bought me a Mercier kilo tt for my 60th. b'day - maybe she's trying to kill me, huh? Anyway, what a difference between fixed and free wheels. I don't have a free wheel cog and am trying to learn how to stop on "command" with no brakes. I have read about different tecniques but need some more explaining. Can anyone tell me in a concise fashion how to learn the tricks? I would really appreciate it before I kill myself. Meanwhile, last night I put on a front brake and took it for a ride. Yes, it helped a great deal but I still want to learn the proper tecnique. Help guys. Thanks and nice to meet you Bike Forum!

Hi Rich, even though it's a Kilo TT, it's still a good idea to have at least a front brake. You can ask the folks in the SS/FG forum, but be prepared for a lot of snarkiness.
That's way cool though that your wife bought you a Kilo! Do you have photos of the Colnago, too?
Welcome to BF, and feel free to PM me with any questions !

Thank you
Thanks for the heads up. Just installed a front brake. Can't seem to stop on command by lifting back wheel and back-peddling but with the front brake I'm set. Thanks and nice to meet you. WIll post Colnago pics as soon as I take them. Never thought anyone wuld be interested in seeing it although it's a beauty.
