Restoration Project (NJ)

Hey everyone, I just dug up an old Peugeot Monaco road bike. I'm really interested in trying this sport out, and plan on bringing it back into somewhat usable condition. Granted, I'm located in NJ and there aren't too many scenic places, but I'm going to try my best to find some bike clubs and places to ride.

My first planned event: 20th annual Farmlands Flat Lincroft, NJ

As soon as it stops snowing, I'll have to get out there and start training

I'll post some pics of the bike within a day or two.

Hi there, lots of scenic places in NJ, kind of have to go away from NYC though. I'll be at the Farmland flats with a bunch of people where I work, If I remember to look for a Peugeut, I'll say hello, assuming you're planning on doing the century. I've done that ride 2 years already, it's a nice ride. If you look at the brochure this year, it no longer says "Farmland Flats" though, it just says Farmlands... Liability??? Who knows!

Well, I wasn't quite planning on doing the century. I'm going to start riding as soon as it warms up a bit, but I'm not sure what kind of shape I have to be in to ride that long... Is there a way to equate riding to running, like where if you can run X miles, you could ride Y miles? I've also looked into the Bike New York event, as that may be a more realistic goal. Any info you have would help.

Also, take a look at this bike, I'm not quite sure what to make of it. Is this considered a women's bike, or is it a touring bike? Does it classify as a road bike? Please pardon the horrific mess in my garage.

Yeah, that would be considered a women's road bike because of the lack of a horizontal top tube. Would allow a lady in a skirt to throw the leg over. It looks like a small frame too with friction top shifters.

Be careful with Bike NY, lots of folks who seem to be clueless. I know folks who either cut out on the ride early if they don't have the VIP pass thing just to avoid the big mass bikers. One reason I've never done that, and another that I'm not fond of cities in general, I much more like to ride in the country.

Alright, thanks for the info. I guess I'll grab my dad's road bike instead.
