Allow myself to ...introduce......myself..?? 
Started when kids were small and bought a used Schwinn World something for 40 bucks. Actually was thinking just now of first bike. Don't remember brand but it was a 2 speed and shifted by reversing the pedals and braking just a little. It was "fast", at least 40 years ago.
Rode off and on since until 2 years ago when I had to have bypass surgery. Wanted to ride bike for exercise so got a Trek hybrid. At first I was riding to get the recommended workout. Now I enjoy the riding and the exercise is just a by-product of the ride. Don't need to ride every day but feel like something is missing if I don't. Bought a Linear recumbent the first part of Jan for something different and as weather and my confidence on the recumbent gets better I am riding it about half the time.

I've been out that way (long time ago) and from what I remember it's very nice countryside for riding.

If you're anywhere by Galena, I seriously envy you... I'm in Chicago and it's flat as a pancake. We Chicagoeans suffer over here with our flat road riding.
