Hello from storm-ravaged Houston!
I have electricity but work is closed, so I have time to play around on the internet! Ike wasn't too bad for me, thankfully; just a bunch of limbs in the streets. I'm on the same power grid as the hospitals so I was without power for only about 11 hours.
I've been biking for about two months and I can't stop. My boyfriend got me into biking and now I outbike him! His dad really likes that... hehe. (His dad works at a bike shop. Eats, sleeps, lives bikes.) I was completely sedentary before I started, and now if I don't ride for more than a day or two I start to get really antsy! Right now, I'm trying to sell my Trek Lime to get a road bike. It's been a great beginner bike but, I swear if that thing downshifts unexpectedly one more time... ugh. It got me into better shape, but time for a better one.

Howdy and welcome to BF. Hope y'all are doing ok down there.
Be patient a new bike will get there. You should check out the mechanics forum
for suggestions on your downshifting problem.
and stop by the Texas regional sub forum!

Welcome to the forum and happy for you that you did not get much damage.
As a former, and still at heart, Houstonian, it pained me to see all of the damage to Galveston and the Galveston Bay area.
I've spoken with most of my friends in Houston and most are still without electricity. Thank goodness you guys had a cool front come through. I've often wonder how anyone lived in Houston in the pre-air conditioning days.

Yeah, It's about 76˚ and gorgeous biking weather... there's just debris everywhere. I'm sure everyone is thankful a coolfront came through, as 1.5 million people are still without power and AC.

Hello saborKT, it sounds as if you were lucky indeed to avoid the worst of the storm. In the meantime, I hope the rest of Houston gets power back soon, and that you get in some more good riding.
