Intro from Atlanta

just signed up the other day and have thoroughly enjoyed the 50+ and Commuter forums and other areas in BF. have been commuting from home to shuttle bus service since May 2008. had been 30 years since last riding a bike. glad I made the change. am working my way back into shape for longer rides down the road. Emory University has a 'deal' going with Bicycle South for an entry level Fuji Absolute 4.0 and other bikes for students, faculty and staff. It is really making a dent in the number of students on campus riding bikes. cheers!

Welcome to BikeForums.

Stop by the Southeast Regional subforum and say hello to the locals.

I'm semi-retired and work part-time at Intown Bicycles in Virginia-Highland. Can't say anything good about Bicycle South. I stopped by there in 2003 when I was unemployed. There was a "sales help wanted" sign on the door. I talked with the store manager about the position. The owner, Fred Boykin (who is about the same age as me), yelled out from the back room, "I want to hire someone younger." He was dead serious and it sounded like age discrimination to me. I was 58 at the time. I have talked with him at bike events and meetings and we have since buried the hatchet, but I vowed I will never support his shop by shopping there or encouraging others to buy from him.
So if you want a good deal on a bike, stop by Intown Bicycles. Lots of friendly helpful folks there.

If you're wanting to take a bike safety class (aka Confident City Cycling) to teach you how to safely navigate the streets around Decatur and Emory, contact Rebecca at the Atlanta Bicycle Campaign, 404-881-1112. There will be a class at Emory on Sept 27 and one in Decatur on Oct 18.

thank you. it is working now. hmm.. that was interesting.

anyhoo. am not a faculty member though been at Emory University 30+ years. am looking for flat rides in the area. just starting up after 30+ years of not riding so have a few muscles that need sorting out. Home is in Northlake Mall area. lots of hills surrounding the house. looking to flatten the road a bit.

I live between North Dekalb Mall and Northlake Mall and head out to Stone Mountain on the bike path. Relatively flat in most sections.
Here's a link to maps from PathFoundation. They provide the $$$ to built all the paths around here.

If you're up for the drive you could also hit the Silver Comet Trail. Runs from Smyrna to the GA/AL state line.
