Hey from Boston
Hi,
My name is Mark Duffield. I live just outside of Boston (walking distance to Fenway). I have been riding bicycles since I was little. In high school, I spent every spare moment on a bike. Once I graduated from college and real life began, the bike took a back seat.
That is, until I changed jobs this past spring. Now, instead of a 30 mile round trip by car to the 'burbs, I now ride 5 miles each to and from my office in Cambridge. I ride an '06 Fuji Cross Pro fitted with a rack, full fenders, and touring tires (Vittoria Randonneurs). I love commuting by bicycle. I ride about 90% of the time, and hope to ride the majority of the time through the winter. Aluminum frame on Boston/Brookline/Cambridge roads isn't ideal, but I haven't had to have any of my fillings replaced yet.
I still have that bike from high school. It is an 1981 Raleigh Grand Sport that has been upgraded to a 12 speed. Still has a Rhode Gear FlickStand (I wish someone would come out with a flickstand-like product today. It would sell like hot cakes). The bike is in great shape. Nothing like vintage steel!
Thanks,
Mark

Welcome Mark!
I grew up in Woburn, MA about 20 minutes from Boston. I always said if I lived in the city there's no way I'd own a car. Unfortunately, (as far as cycling goes), I live in the sticks of Maine where it's so spread out it's not as flat as I'd like...

Hey Mark, welcome! I live 60 miles west of Boston and only go to the city when someone puts a gun to my head. Good to have more Mass-a-holics here in any case, enjoy the forum!

Hi Mark, what does this Rhode Gear flickstand look like? There's still a product being sold that's called a flickstand, although I don't know if it's the same thing.

I'd love to have one on my Fuji. Problem is the Fuji's downtube is diamond-shaped and much bigger the the 1 1/8" downtube on my Raleigh. Apparently Rhode Gear made several FlickStands for several other kinds of downtubes, but were purchased/went out of business before they sold many of them.
The only place I've seen FlickStands for sale is on eBay. Where have you seen them for sale?

Those Rhode Gear flickstands were semi-popular back in the late 70's or early 80's if I recall. They turn the bike into a solid panel so you can lean it up against anything and the front wheel won't twist. OMG, I haven't seen one of these in ages! Not sure they make them anymore, Ebay may well be your best alternative.
