Hello from Cincinnati
This is a great site! I have been perusing this site for a couple of weeks and found it to be a wealth of good information.
I live in downtown Cincinnati and I work about 25 miles north of the downtown area. I ride the metro bus from the city and I ride from the closest stop to my work. It's about a 3.5 mile ride. I ride in charity events like the MS 150 and other local rides.
I have a Gary Fisher Zebrano Hybrid. I like my bike but now I'm wishing I would have purchased a standard road bike. I have switched the tires to Continental Gatorskin Ultras and that has helped to lower the rolling resistance but now I wish it just had a couple of more gears to grab at higher speeds. Some people have told me to not bother changing my hybrid into a road bike and to just buy a road bike. Most of my regular riding distances are anywhere from 3-30 miles. Very rarely do I do anything more than 30 miles except for the MS 150.
I'm looking forward reading tips on how to ride in traffic and how to ride in the winter. Looking forward to your input!
Welcome to the forum! I've never ridden a hybrid, but I have both a road and mountain bike. I've been mostly a road rider for many years and I tend to agree with that statement you made, that perhaps an out-and-out road bike is probably the way to go. If you get into some serious mileage, you'll have the right tool for the job! See if you can get some test rides on several road bikes at your local shop and it might help in making the final decision.
Hi Stewy, have you taken a look at the local Craigslist? It's possible you could pick up a decent used road bike, especially if you go with vintage steel.
Welcome to BF, and feel free to PM me with any questions :) !
