Hi I live in the foothills of the appalachains been riding a trek 5000 for two years I have put about 2000 miles on it in that time and as where i live you can't go 500feet in any direction without going up or down a hill i figured its about time to try a compact crank, so since the closest LBS kinda seems to shy away from me if i try to get information on how to do this from after he finds out I'll probaly be gettin the parts fom e-bay instead of him I thought i would try some bike forums to get some tech answers anyway thats for another forum just wanted to say Hi and if anyone on here rides in the cheaha mtn area send me a line and we can get together I ride 95% of the time alone since no one around where i live rides seriously so I would greatly appreciate a group to ride with I really dont consider myself a newbie in riding terms but when it comes to tech and compatibility issues i have no clue, I keep my bike clean and the chain lubed keep the tires in good shape but other than that i just get on it and ride i havent a clue about all the other stuff that goes with wrenching your own so happy roads and heres to all you bikers with your own motor.

Hi roktmn, I'm sure someone in the Mechanics forum can help you out. From what I've heard, it's not especially difficult.

Welcome to BF, and feel free to PM me with any questions !
