I am glad I found this site. I was looking for some old Italian cycling shoes, like Vittoria or Sidi. I can't believe how many people like bicyles! I started riding as a kid, like most people. I grew up in Sierra Madre Ca. My first bike was a christmas present, kudos to my Dad, may he rest in peace. It was a 20" Royce-Union, white and gold, with an attached rear rack, and a headlamp on the front. I was learning to ride it on our front sidewalk christmas day, and I took off, and left my two older sisters behind as I was instantly intoxicated by the speed! They yelled at me to stop, and that's when I realized that I didn't know how to! I reached the end of the block, dropped off the sidewalk, went across the street, and pegged the curb, bending the fork back, doing an endo over the bars. My dad came running up to see if I was okay(I was), and laughed when he saw I had wrecked my new bike after on one minute of riding. Well, thank god I wasn't traumatized so much that I never rode again, because I love to ride bicycles! I have not found anything that provides the thrill bikes do. I moved on to make my own BMX bike in 1968, out of a Sears Spyder, and then a crude MTB in 1972. My first USCF race was in 1976, and I placed 3rd in my second race, crashed out in my third. All in all, I have experienced many things on a bike, but I think I liked criteriums the best. There are no real crowds for road races here in the US like in Europe, so crits are the closest thing to an audience for a show off like a racer is. Well, I hope to hear from other pedalphiles like me. Peace!

Hi SpeedFreek! That is indeed a hilarious story . As you say, at least you were not traumatised for life because of it.

If you are looking for old school cycling shoes, try asking in the Classic & Vintage forum. There's an ISO/WTB thread there, and someone may have just what you are looking for.

Welcome to BF, and feel free to PM me with any questions !
