Newbies From Georgia

Hey guys and gals,

I have been reading over the forums lately as my girlfriend and I were looking to get into cycling. Right now just for the exercise and enjoyment of it.

Well, I was very young the last time I had ever been on a bike, and my girlfriend went to x-mart and picked up a RoadMaster, I didn't think anything of it, as I just thought a bike was a bike, until I got online, and everything I read opened up my eyes.

We quickly took the bike back, and began our search for decent used bikes on CL. At a LBS about 30 minutes away I found a used Trek Mountain Track 830 that I liked for a decent price, but didn't buy it at the time. And then last night my girlfriend found a used Trek on CL in the same city for VERY cheap, although it needs some work, so we hopped on it, and I bought the 830 at the LBS.

Turns out they are both Trek Mountain Track 830s with hers being a little older. Mine Red and hers Purple.

Hers needs some work, and I started tearing it down this afternoon. I have a lot to learn. I just ordered some parts online that I can fix myself, and then it will go into the LBS for a full service.

I hope that we stay in this sport and are able to meet some of you that may be in the area!

Hi BUT, there are certainly some members in and around your area--check out the regional forums to find out where they lurk.

That's a stroke of luck that you were able to find two Treks virtually alike and at the same time. It's also pretty cool that you are going to fix up your gf's bike. Wrenching on bikes is not all that difficult for the most part, and the folks in the Bicycle Mechanics forum can help you out.

Welcome to BikeForums, and don't hesitate to send me a PM if you have any questions.

Welcome.
Stop by the Southeast Regional subforum and say hello to the locals.
