Hello from Bethany Ontario
I just found this great forum while looking for some tips for my new Specialized crosstrail pro hybrid. At 44 years old I had sort of given in to my neck problems that made both road and mountain bikes too uncomfortable for a real ride. I have always rode bikes and got a decent Nishiki road bike 20 years back followed by a stumpjumper then I built my singletrack dream bike in 92. That was a FAT Chance "yo-eddy" with full XTR and a then state of the art rock shox Mag 20. It took me all over the back country in eastern Ont. as well as Vermont and upstate New York.
I have a cycling family which makes it easier to move on to a new bike since the old one will be taken over by one of my kids . The hybrid thing is really starting to catch on around here and I decided to try one out. I wasn't too interested in a bike that had lower end components so my choices were few but after finding a terrific bike store in Mississauga Ont. called Gears I found the crosstrail.
I hope to use this as my main forum for bike related matters thanks.

Hi Nick (I'm guessing),
Welcome to Bike Forums. I've got a few years on you, but am still hanging in there with roadies. Take a look around the various sub-forums. There's a lot of variety, and a lot of knowledge. You're well above the average age of the usual participants in the BMX and MTB Forums. Things can be a bit drenched in youthful testosterone in those two, but they can still be good sources of information. I gravitate to the Classic and Vintage Forum, but there's virtually an entire world of experiences you can have here if you care to explore.

Hi Nick, how many bikes total are in the family? Do you still have the Nishiki? I have had several Nishikis, and have loved them all.

Welcome, and greetings from B.C. young chap.
I have a Nishiki and neck problems. The two aren't related. The old Landeau spends its life on the trainer these days.
You might want to look at other things you do daily. Do you spend much time at the computer? I got computer-specific eyewear, this year. Cost as much as a new drivetrain for my Marinoni Ciclo, but was worth it. Now I don't cock my head to read through the bottom of my ordinary progressives.
The other thing you should be doing is regular upper body work, to strengthen supporting muscles in neck and shoulders. After a very doubtful start to this year's randonneuring season, with these changes, I managed to fit in a "full series."
