Greetings from SoCal

Newbie here - getting into road bikes and single speeds.

I saw that Schwinn Madison, looks like a cool bike; maybe even the Cutter. Going to have to check out my local Schwinn shop.

Any recommendations for a decent single speed, freewheel? I browsed BikesDirect, the Mercier looks pretty nice.

Heard about some local rides around LA/OC, night rides - anyone hear of these?

Would love to hear what others have to say.
Looks like a cool forum.

There is a SS/FG forum that deals with such things. They can be a rough crowd, but not without entertainment value.

One bit of advice about ss freewheels though: cheaper ones are made without any means of removal. Unbelievable but true. Make sure to eyeball them and be sure it has at least two cut-out splines for a removal tool to fit. BMX freewheel removal tools tend to have larger, more robust splines than the run-of the mill Shimano multi-speed removal tool. It causes much gnashing of teeth when you go to remove the freewheel someday and discover that it can only be done by destroying it.
