Hello, new member here.

Hello, I'm new to the forum and wanted to say hello.

I suppose I would be considered a novice or hobbyist rider, never having done any really serious riding. My bicycle background would be the typical bike riding as a kid, then short commutes during college, and for the past several years I've been riding a cruiser on local neighborhood jaunts.

My cruiser is a single speed, low end model made by Phat that I did some very basic modifications to such as stripping off the decals leaving just the black paint, adding fenders and salvaged vintage reflectors, and switching to double sided pedals and replacing the handlebars with a more classic bullhorn style.

Recently I've been getting interested in doing more riding, somewhat for fitness, but more for enjoyment. Due to budget constraints and a taste for that vintage and classic looks, I started hitting some local thrift stores looking for old road or touring bikes. I just recently purchased a Centurion LeMans for $30 from the Salvation Army. The paint is chipped or scratched in several places, and there is minor rust on the frame and a few other places such as the spokes, cable stays, and brake hardware. There is also some buildup of dirt/grease/gunk, but overall everything spins and moves cleanly. Aside from the decals, there is also two bike shop stickers, one from Singapore and one from some unspecific Main Street, as well as a California license. After having read through several of the Centurion threads, I've managed to figure out most of the specs on the bike.

As this is my first road bike and the first real bike with more than one speed, I've really been enjoying getting the hang of the friction shifting, and the speed at which I can move, which is much faster than riding the cruiser.

These forums have been an invaluable source of knowledge and information, and I've been learning a lot from everyone else's contributions. Thanks in advance for any tips, advice or comments.

ps: If you ever find yourself traveling through Rye, Arizona, be sure to hit the bicycle junkyard. It will both amaze and sicken you:
