Retired Marine infantry here. 20 years of having more fun than the average human ought to be allowed to have. Was a runner the entire time, but about year 17 started to notice a sharp pain across the face of my right knee. That brought me back to bikes when I retired in 96.
I started on 79$ Walmart bikes, then moved up to a Fuji Roubaix in 2004. It was like night and day difference, but beat the living crap out of me on the century. I've moved on to an 05 Specialized Roubaix Elite triple which makes a world of difference. Currently exploring the possibility of upgrading to a Gunnar Sport if my fiscal adviser approves the request.
Mainly a long distance guy, still sort of in the mode that every ride needs to be a minimum of 30+ miles. Did 3 centuries last year and 5 this year. The goal for next year is 7 starting from April. Ride to and from work on the Roubaix in the spring/summer and a Fuji Absolute 1.0 in fall/winter. It's that one less car and extra miles per week thing ya know?
