Greetings
It's that time of the year again..so I should make this Season's Greetings.
I'm a big fellow, (5-11, 248), hoping to lose a few (like about 50) pounds by the end of next summer. I own a 1991 Schwinn Crisscross. (27", 21 gears). I bought this bike new, and it still serves me well to this day. I suppose there are better bikes out there, and from you good folks, I hope to learn more about that. For the time being the one I own will have to do.
I reside in Michigan, and we have maybe, at best, an eight month riding season. In the meantime I've been walking vigorously about three miles day, and already I feel better.
If I have any concerns; it's the over the road riding I enjoy, and I have some fear associated with how to cope with traffic volumes that seem to be spinning out of control. I use a "third eye" attached to my glasses, and that helps.
Could someone please provide me with some tips, (any tips) to allay my suddenly-new-found-fear of being a road warrior, once again...like I used to be. That would be appreciated. And thanks so much!
God Bless, and Happy Riding.............................................................................................. ...

Welcome to BF and road riding.
Your 1991 Schwinn is as fast as any new bike.
Send me a PM for questions.

I would rather ride without the helmet than without the rear view mirror on my glasses. A bright blinkie light attached to the seat might also help - it is better when mounted close to driver's eye level. Just ride more and you will learn how to mix in with the other traffic.

Yeah. Thanks Wheels for the response. I've accepted the friend invite. I envy the fact that where you live in TX, I presume, you can ride pretty much all year round. Does the number under your handle indicate how many miles you're planning on doing this summer?
