Another Beltway resident

I guess I could say "DC" but actually I live in Arlington, VA and the DC-VA divide is fierce.

I've been commuting to the metro or biking directly to work for a year now and on Tuesday, right before Christmas, my Trek 7.2 FX got stolen. I *loved* that bike. It was my first "real" bike that I ever bought, after a year of riding around on a bike that someone discarded on the side of the road. I don't even know what the model was.

Anyway it was stupid. The bike lock I was using was a Kryptonite U-lock circa 2003, which I had no idea until this morning has been considered pretty unreliable.

Anyway I just bought a new bike today, an upgrade really. Here's hoping my new lock holds up.

Welcome to Bikeforums. That sucks about your bike getting stolen. Did you have it insured, or part of your house insurance?

I haven't tested it yet, but I suspect the deductible on my renters insurance is $500 anyway. My brother thinks I should just overreport the value of the bike, but I already filed the police report where I say exactly what bike it was.

Welcome, sorry about the theft.

Where I live I can leave my bike unlocked on the rack at work... but then a town of 30k does not exactly have the variety of entertainment and services, so it's a tradeoff.

Looks like more and more DCers are joining. Welcome, and remember to watch out for those cab drivers!
