Just wanna say hello
I just wanted to tell everyone hello and tell about me. As you can tell by the name, I'm a dirtbiker too. A lot of my friends do, or are starting to ride MTB's too. I have been biking since 2000, but just for fun every once in awhile. Last year, I bought a set of road tires for my MTB instead of getting a road bike due to expense. I want to make sure I like road biking before I spend the $$ for a decent one. Thus far, I find that I like to road bike and like to do it while alternating between it and running. Finally, with the new year, I am looking at indoor trainers and decided to try to find a forum for biking like the dirtbiking forums I have found so informative in the past. I hope I can maybe give some back here one day like I do on the dirtbiking forums.

Hello. Welcome to BF's. I'm sure you'll find what you're looking for here. Indoor trainers are great in the winter months (if you live in a cold climate). However there are lots of choices of trainers. Make sure you research it before you buy one and are disappointed. They aren't cheap ... at least for the good ones. I have a Love/Hate relationship with my trainer depending on how tired I am.

Thanks Alfster! I looked around last night and before I joined and I realize I'll spend some $$ to get a good one. I'm between the Kinetic Road "whatever" and the CycleOps Fluid 2. There were some awesome reviews of both and others too. I can see that you have folks here that are as enthusiastic about this sport as there are about dirtbiking. Thanks for the welcome!
Oh, as far as cold weather, I don't get home till after dark and I hate just to ride in loops around the 'hood. Yes, I have read the 10 things not to do when you're a newbie and when I would make 13 laps around the block, I now realize that was me!
Anyway, I want to alternate biking and running each night indoors while it is chilly and gets dark early.

I've never used the Kinetic Road Machine. However I own the CycleOps Fluid 2. I would definitely recommend it as a good basic trainer. I would stay away from the magnetic trainers if you can spend the few extra bucks for a fluid trainer. Sound's like you're leaning that way anyhow.
